About us

htmelle is all about helping girls overcome barriers to success. We create leadership programs that empower our students to pursue their dreams and solve real-world problems with the support of a nurturing community.

What we’re trying
to overcome

A female entrepreneur encounters numerous barriers that make it difficult for her to become successful. These challenges include but are not limited to:

Lack of female role models
The gap between the amount of women and men in entrepreneurial and managerial positions is huge.
Limited access
to funding
Only 2.2% of venture-capital funded companies have female CEOs.
Lack of
support network
48% of female founders reported that a lack of available advisors and mentors limits their professional growth.
Fear of failure
Insecurities and unseen biases keep women from dreaming big.
Reinforced stigmas
Women are often seen as the people who stay at home and care for the children—not the ones who change the world.

htmelle exists to break down these barriers and catalyze a young woman’s entrepreneurial journey.

We are the only nonprofit organization that incubates and accelerates female-led ventures towards success.

Our mission

We help young girls become innovative problem solvers by equipping them with tangible skills and real business experiences in a supportive and motivating community.

Our vision

To build a highway to greatness for every girl.
0
girls is where we started
0
girls over the next year
0 +
female leaders in 5 years

Our guiding principles

Strive to be non-traditional
Approaching every challenge and situation with an innovative
framework of mind.
Working for the collective good
Valuing the good of society and our communities and working towards creating a better future for all of us, rather than only some of us.
Learning & unlearning
Choosing to learn the things we weren’t taught in traditional education and unlearn the things we were taught that were inaccurate or damaging.
Inclusivity & positivity
These are the values we will always hold for ourselves and others.
Always be driven by empathy
Working to always make decisions under the lens of empathy.

Our herstory

“I have always been creative and inquisitive, and I love understanding how things work.

In my last year of college, I took a computer science class and fell in love, but quickly realized that there was a wide gender gap in the technology industry— which was something that I felt should be changed. So, I started my own computer science club using the Girls Who Code nonprofit curriculum. I taught elementary through high school girls basic computer science skills.

This period of my life made me realize how much I thrived from the power of social impact and that designing solutions could solve real-world problems and change people’s lives.

I started htmelle with the vision is to ensure more young women choose and graduate from college with degrees in computer science and STEAM-related fields.

I also hope that through htmelle, we inspire more girls like myself to chart their own path, have the confidence to pursue their unique interests and be entrepreneurial, and start ventures as next-generation leaders.”
